Thread: choke plate

I took my carburetor off this weekend to adjust the float on my K2 CT70. After taking it off I could hear something rattling around. Found that the little air door on the choke plate had broken off?? Not sure how this could happen but I'm sure glad it didn't get ingested in the motor!! Anyway, hoping someone may have an extra choke plate they would like to sell. Thanks...

I've never seen the part sold as a replacement. However, I have seen these with the hole covered as a repair. That might work but, considering what's at risk, I'd consider a new carb if you can't find a vintage one to cannibalize for parts.

If you can't buy it then I had to try to make it, so tonight I made a replacement air door for my choke after work. The pin is swaged down on one side only and I opened it up slightly with a drill and the pin came out easily. I used the metal from a computer slot blank off from a pc. The metal is the same thickness and even had a finish close to the original. There is enough material on the choke plate to re-swage the pin when your done. Attached are a couple pics of the finished repair...
