    Steering Lock

Anyone have any opinions on steering locks for a CT. I see a few on the Bay and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or maybe a couple for sale. I looked at the DR. and couldn't find lock sets only on his site.

Not sure really how they connect to the forks. I'll take anyone's 2 cents.

    thx-

Not sure about the 12v (1990s models), but earlier versions never had them. The ST70 & ST50 versions did and there's no easy way to retrofit the setup to a CT70. STs had a flange welded to the steering neck, either at the top or bottom edge, along with a lock cylinder that attached to the lower tree. The lock cylinder isn't easy to find domestically and not cheap when you do. The lock flange would have to be custom-fabbed & welded to the frame. There's another consideration, namely, STs used the K0 type fork until circa 1980. Not sure if this setup could be adapted to the thicker, cast steel, K1 & later tree.

Considering what's involved, the uncertainties that it can be done in the first place and the limited effectiveness, a motorcycle cable & hardened lock w/tubular key is a better way to go, imho.

Well they are easy to get in Denmark. Mounting them is a different matter as racerx has pointed out. There is also a speciel welded holder for mounting the lock on the ST50/70? front fork. So its a matter of getting a ST50/70 top end for the front fork and getting the flange welded to the frame.

Thanks X & Anderz for your insight! Little more involved than what I thought.

Hey Mike, the 12v bikes are a breed apart from pre-`80 6v models. Maybe it is possible to retrofit a `91-94 steering lock assembly. I've only had a handful of `90s models and sold `em quickly, years ago. In other words, I've zero familiarity with the steering lock on your `92.

The biggest obstacle with 12v bikes is finding NOS parts. But, if they'll work and you can find them...

    Question Locks For locking Stuff

Here's some locks that were shipped to me when I bought my Lifan110. I think ones a helmet lock and the other might be a steering lock. My ignition key fits both locks. I not exactly sure where they go on the bike to tell you the truth!

If you don't mind welding your frame it's pretty easy to fix a steering lock. Had to do that to my green Z50 (enforced by federal regulations in Germany).

You'll need to weld a lock casing to the frame (I slaughtered a frame damaged in an accident but it should be easy to fabricate one yourself) and drill a hole through the steering stem.
