    1972 ct70 k1

I've always thought that these were cool little bikes... Actually I first came across the Lifan version at my local Lifan distributor...

Anyways this bike came up on craigslist and I had to go pick it up. It doesn't run, the ignition is disassembled... It needs paint, and it needs a seat. Judging by the color, the side decal, and seat I decided it is a k1. It isn't registered, at least not to me or the guy I bought it from. I plan on getting it registered before spending too much money and time on it. Vrodsss pointed me in the direction of most of the parts I'll need. The only part that looks like it is going to be a problem is the candy yellow paint. The seat is garbage, but the chrome I should be able to repair. The pan, is hit or miss, I'm going to try to repair it, but I need foam and a cover for sure.

That paint looks fine for a rider. Good score on a K1 - they are many people's favorite year. Nice for you to have the tail light bracket on there, they're fairly hard to find for the K1. Headlight ears look straight, too. Here's a before and after pic for my K1 rider, less than $300 went into this, 1/3 of that was for the seat.

Thanks. That's a good looking bike

On the other side, by the chain guard, the paint is flaking off (big flakes). The paint and decal on this side are in better condition. Otherwise though it looks solid. Theres no real rust. No body damage that I'm aware of. I'm going to blast and repaint the wheels. Replace the taillight lens and the missing spark plug guard, and the seat. After I get it running. I also want to repaint the black on the exhaust and exhaust shield. Oh and replace the reflectors.

What color are the wheels (rim) supposed to be originally?

    Thanks again.

You guys have a really good site put together here.

I just need to finish this one

before I get too far into the CT

Wow. Your garage looks AMAZING. It's bigger than my entire apartment. I'm envious. Same goes for your truck. I have a Cherokee now, but I really miss my CJ7 and, most of all, my full size Bronco.

Thanks, it's actually the shop at my parents place, I also live in an apartment. They have a family run trucking business, which is why we have the shop there (partly), but I've sort of taken it over with my pickup and bike :P

Out of curiosity what would people consider a fair price for a bike in that sort of condition (the ct)?

Ok so I'm waiting on some parts for the 350 so I tinkered a little with this one.

I have some parts for the ignition, but the parts on the bike, and the spare are not the same... I may be able to take the two, and turn it into one, but I don't know much about the ignition stuff so I'm going to do some research. I can buy all this stuff new if I need new pieces.

This is what the side on the bike looks like,

This is what the other one looks like

The plate is different, but the coils look the same... I was in the process of taking the coils off of there to put on the other plate, but I figured I have to deal with the wiring behind the plate, so I decided to do some more research before taking it apart. I have a copy of the service manual so I'm going to look that over, and maybe read up on dans mc course about this stuff.

Like I said though, I can get this stuff all new if I need too.

    I took the seat off...

As you can see, the pan isn't much good... But I think I may blast it, then get my dad to show me how to weld some patches on it, and then maybe do some fiberglassing... Either that or look for a cheap seat, but I haven't seen any on ebay yet.

I took the torn up cover / foam off. I kept the chrome seat molding, it has a small bend but should be recoverable.

I also found that the stator (?) / counter sprocket cover is cracked, and should be replaced, though, since it doesn't hold any oil or anything, it's not too important I don't think.

Anyways, that's all for the 70 for now.

Oh, I also wrote up the letter to do the title search.

    Edit,

Just looked at the mini trail site,

I can get the stator kit for $28.50.

Got a bit of a parts list going...

Hey PC, thanks for the tip. I have been looking at those... I assume they are a reproduction? But correct enough... I figured my pan is probably junk, but still thought I may give it a try... The other thing I am considering is looking for a used pan on ebay or elsewhere, and then simply getting foam and a cover($25ish on ebay), too save a little money...

That seat is one that is always available on ebay though right? I've seen it from the same seller as a buy it now, however I don't want to invest that much money into it right now, until I can confirm I can attain the title I am trying to get.

    Thanks again.

Hey, yes I haven't seen it lower priced either, but have seen it as buy it now for $125 I think it was with shipping? I figured if I miss the auction one, I can buy it now on the other one from the same seller... My only reason for hesitating right now is I don't yet have a title, and I don't want to spend a lot (can't) right now. I figured if I got foam ($45ish?), and a cover ($25ish) and found a decent used pan I could save maybe $40... I guess that's really not worth it though, when I really think about it... You should be a salesman
