Is it a 69??? Silver vin tag!!!

Well i just picked up this bike last week and i am confused. The steering stem has a silver vin tag with no date stamped on it, by having a silver vin tag i realize that its a early ko but does that make it a 69????

Yes it is an early production 69' and based on the serial number it was most likely made towards the end of the first month of production. Nice find. The exhaust tip was another dead give away.

What is unique about the exhaust tip to a 69??? What are other factors that make it a 69 other that vin tag, exhaust tip, this is my first 69 ko so i am very curios

    Exhaust

Look at the end of the 69 exhaust, it does not have the extension like the 70-71. The extension is only 1/2-3/4" long. Go to motor city mini trails. Our own Dennis d's bike is featured and he lists the differences. I believe it is in the galleries or customer bike sections. The bike on the site is red. I have a silver tag 69 also and racerx (owner of motor city mini trails) directed me to that site. It was very helpful.

Lift the seat and see where the tail light leads pass through the frame. Should be topside on an early `69. All later production had it moved inside the frame, behind the shock mount spndle.

The color is right for a `69. Seems like most surviving specimens are Candy Sapphire blue, with a few Candy Ruby red examples thrown-in for good measure. I've yet to see Candy gold & silver VIN tag on the same bike. Congrats on your find.

    Candy Gold 69

Racer..I saw a Candy Gold with the silver tag at the same time I got my 1st emerald H. It had a very cracked/bent frame (everything) from jumping so I passed on it. Don (powerage440) has a great example of one. I think it is on his albums page.

I recalled seeing them back in `69 and at the time it seemed like candy gold was the only color. Preferences change over time and gold isn't nearly as popular 40 years later. It had been so long since I could recall seeing a silver-tagged gold CT, that I was beginning to wonder if my memory had gone off the rails
