    Question Carb mounting question

I took the carb off the engine of mt '70 ct70, pipe inlet and all. I took it all apart and cleaned it up! everything is back together and good but it seems that the pipe that mounts back to the engine is not tightening right. I remember when taking it off there seemed to be some threading or tape around the bolt that may have made it tighter. its wobbly now. any suggestions on how to get that mounted properly?

Thats the intake you are talking about and it sounds like the threads were stripped. If it were the threads on the intake where the carb attaches to it wouldn't have been so bad. You could have just put bolts through there with nuts attached. This sounds like the threads that are in the engine block itself. You probably will have to tap new threads. It also sounds like the previous owner put plumbers tape around the threads because he had stripped them out previously. I suppose you could try that again but its really not the proper fix. If you have any air leak there the engine will not run right.

The bolt itself is a 6mm X 20mm. So I am guessing a 6mm tap if there is enough material. Its been a long time since I have had to tap threads but I would start there.

Have you tried a new bolt and see if maybe that helps. Even if you tap it, I would also install a new bolt.
