    Danno's CT70 Project

Hey guys im an autobody guy from MN & stumbled across one of these bikes. after seeing all the goodies & endless possibilities I thought this would be a fun project

my bike is mostly stock & currently just fixing all the parts that have gone bad with nice aftermarket parts..

so far ive got the blinkers & taillight to work again, added coilovers with reservoirs & a TB exhaust system since the factory one had holes in it..

my plans are to make this bike pretty quick, will eventually go crazzy an put a 125 or higher engine in it..

if anyone has any input on modding it further please chime in, looking to get the most outta the stock motor until she blows & i have to upgrade

    Thanks for looking

Cool bike Danno! Looks like the rear brake pivot shaft snapped off? - Far as modding, I think your imagination is the only limit. But be warned, they are a bit addictive. In the process of "modding" one bike, I wound up with four more in short order. As well I think I own every flavor of engine now. What you plan to use it for, may drive what direction you take in mods, plenty of good info on here though to help guide you.

thanks for the replies guys ! its a 1978, The coilovers i found on ebay, i am very impressed with them, my big buddy who is around 250 haha can hop on it an not bottom them out.. & yes the rear brakes arent hooked up, i need to get a diagram an figure out what all i need to buy/replace..

as for modding i just want it faster right now im lucky to do 35 i would love to have a clutch & i see people putting lifan motors in these with a 4 speed clutch setup..

also being a painter i wanna do something with the paint.. maybe just keep it black & chrome with gold wheels or get wild & use some candy colors on it.. Ohh an Trust me i am already addicted hah my race cars are getting neglected big time since this joined the garage.

    Hey Dan,

    Welcome aboard
Looks like the CT70 bug has bitten and you're feeling the effects already. It's a good sickness, though

Pretty sweet looking `78 and it's nearly all there, aside from the rear brake parts, sparkplug guard & rear turn signals. Those first two should be easily remedied. If you're going to customize this bike, no need to worry about those unobtanium OEM rear turn signals. (Unwritten rule #1: build it the way you want it) If it were mine, I'd remove the old brake pivot remains and weld-in a new replacement. No one sells them, of course. However, a new 14mm replacement axle can be sourced and cut down to the proper ~180mm length, then drilled for a cotter pin.

As for top speed, 35-42mph is typical for a bone-stocker.

I would think a YX/GPX 160cc Engine would be a nice touch on that bike.

YX 160CC COOLED ENGINE MOTOR CRF50 XR 50 OGM LIFAN GPX on eBay.ca (item 390077037526 end time 26-Aug-10 1934 EDT)

    have fun,

    Scott
