    Question Paint Question

    Question for the experts!

I am getting really close to painting my z50 and my ct70.

I know Honda used a silver bottom coat and then the the color coat to achieve the candy apple colors.

Does anyone know if there is any paint that closely match the candy red, gold or blue without the silver and color process?

I would like to prime, color and then clear coat (skipping the silver).

I would look at the House of Kolor Shimrins Pearls. They look close to candies and you can mix them together to tint them if needed.

    Paint on 50

Try Vintage Honda paint.com they have the right kits at a reasonable price. I have used them a couple times and are very good.

The only suggestion that has been given is the House of Kolor paint. All the rest need a base, top, and clear coat. From your post I take it you are trying to avoid the 1 additional step of a base coat? Your only talking about 45min to 1 hr of additional time to paint the bike correct. If your going to all the trouble of painting, spend the extra hr. and do it right.

If you want correct color matches without guesswork, colorite.com. On the other hand, if you're after a "near-candy", they're a lot easier to apply without fear of uneven color development, tiger-striping and other common pitfalls associated with true candy colors. These can also be touched-up without surgical skill and massive amounts of good luck. That said, out in daylight, even the best of them look lifeless compared to the same color in true candy. As long as you know this going in and just want a nice color that's sorta close, 2-stage "near-candy" colors may fit your requirements. You should also be aware that unless you're sourcing really cheap material, there's not much cash to be saved. HOK has their Shimrin line, DuPont has a line called "chroma". DuPont is far easier to apply, HOK is more durable.

Oreilly's can get you Dupont, Nason, and HOK paints actually. They can usually special order anything you want as well. Dupont and Nason are there primary lines. Hot Hues is Duponts "house of kolor knockoff". They could get you real close without the high cost. Dupont is a very fine product. I have never personally painted a CT but I did paint my GSXR750 Hot Hues Green Extreem with Chromapremier clear and it turned out looking very close to Candy Emerald Green.

Unfortunately I used to work there... Great paint section though, But there are not too many stores that actually carry and mix the paint.
