    Help with my CF70

Hello I am new here and thought I would post in the ST70 section as this is very close to my Chaly (CF70) which I bought to restore back in July. I have now fully restored the bike very close to original apart form the colour as I dont like yellow much.

This is how the bike looked when I collected it from Halifax

    Now the restoration has started

As you can all see the bike is looking great but I have a problem with the electrics,

    1. The battery (brandnew) does not charge very well from the the bike and the coil that runs the headlight etc really killes the engine (like a misfire) when the lights are turned on. I thought this might have meen the rectifier but I have fitted a new one and its still the same, any help please?

I think you did an awesome restoration and I really like the color that you chose. Those bikes are very cool...You don't see too many here.

Have you seen Brad Reynolds Chaly pics? He did an awesome restoration on his also.

I voted on your poll to soon. The bike looks awsome and the silver is nice. Was it hard to restore being that it is an uncommon bike?

I truely love it! Looks stock. You do great work.

The only thing I would change, is the red horn and red cover bolts. It draws away from the rest of the great work you've done.

I agree with everyone. Very Very nice restoration job!
I kind-of dig the slight custom touches of color to brighten up
    the Silver/Black theme.

at first glance at the first before restoration pics i thought it looked like a stupid moped that i could not see worth restoring.

after seeing the after pics you completely changed my mind, that bike is classy and elegant

Check for the lighting & primary ignition coils being wired incorrectly/reversed or possibly cross-connected. The lights should have zero effect on engine performance. Also check for bad grounds, which are very common on repaints. Wouldn't hurt to test the rectifier, while you're at it. The symptoms could be the results of more than one underlying cause.

have checked all these (I am an Electrician) and think I may have a faulty coil, I have also tested the coil at 500volts and it seems ok so will go back to basics and disconnect everything and follow the wires to make sure this is not crossing anywhere. Rectifier seem to be fine and this is also a brand new unit.
