    My buddy needs help

    Hello All,
My buddy has a 90 CT-90 Trail and said it will idle just fine, but when any kind of electrical load is applied to it, it will just die, he says even if he hits the brake pedal it will die, sound like the alternator to you all?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rick

check all wiring..make sure no bare wires which may cause dead short to ground...i do not have a ct90 and very limited knowledge..if the ct90 is battery dependant (i am not sure) i would check all the electrical circuits first before i believe its the alternator...weird problem and i have never run across this..may be racer has some ideas

Yes, the CT90 is battery dependent. Make sure you have a fully functional 6 volt battery that is well charged. I would also replace the original Honda rectifier with Radio Shack rectifier part number 276-1185 for less than four bucks. The RS part is far less expensive, runs cooler, is more efficient, and has a higher breakdown voltage than the original Honda part. It is also less toxic than the original selenium Honda part. Even the oddball terminal arrangement is the same between the two parts making the swap easy to perform. I got about .75 volts more DC out of my stator after the change which is a hefty performance increase in a six volt bike. This is a no-brainer change for any ST90 or CT90 bike and for four bucks, buy several while you are at Radio Shack. Virtually every store will have this part in stock all the time.
