    Trail buddy

OK i ordered a 125cc trail buddy form Ron at Trail Buddy, Honda CT70, Trail 70 bikes & CT70 parts

i went with the trail package for $375
the Bike was the trail buddy pro he cut me a deal on for $1350 or something like that.
total was $1750.00 I'm scatterbrained and cant remember the exact price right now. free shipping and man was it fast shipping 2 days.

Ron sent me pictures of it being crated up after he added the tires shocks and all that.

when i pick it up ill get some pictures of the crate condition.

i asked Ron to leave off the sticker because I'm using some custom made ones a guy on the KLR forum made me.
ill put his stickers on my van or truck so they will not go to waste.
Ron also re-geared it for me to a 17 tooth front sprocket.

i had to do a liability release just like i did with Hooper's imports for my wifes 110cc CT70 clone. so when i get the MSO ill post up on the tagging process.

Hard to imagine that bike can actually be that cost effective

He must not be making a lot of margin on it

I've been happy with my stuff from trail buddy

let us know how it turns out

i picked it up today and the box was in good condition. i left my camera on my KLR "was playing a Tag game on ADV rider" so no pictures other than low res on my cell phone.
it was well packed nothing shifted inside. it was strapped down to a wooden pallet with metal straps that were kind of a pain in the back side to cut.

the vin was easy to read not like the Hooper imports CT70 clone. only a few differences i have noted so far. mainly the wiring that goes threw the frame don't have a rubber gasket to protect it, this one has a slot cut in it that may need a little reinforcing with tape to keep the wires form wearing/cutting.

every thing else different i have seen so far was a improvement over the last Clone i got. ill know more when i get it all the way out of the crate and put it together. i did not get home in time to work on it so i left it in the truck.

the one problem so far is the chain is really tight and that will need adjusting before i test ride it, it may need a longer chain due to the 17 tooth sprocket.
it appears to be at the limit of the adjustment. but i really did not look that close at it. ill know more when i relock tight all the bolts and set it up to how i want it.

first impressions are good and I'm happy so far with out even taking it all the way out of the crate.

update time i was wrong the frame dose have the rubber insert for the wires it was just hard for me to see it in the dark the black paint matches it so good i missed it.
i was also wrong the chain was perfectly in adjustment when its in the crate it was tight but when i sat on it it had just the right amount of slack in it.

it seams to be much better built than the Hooper's imports bike "nothing against hoppers its just the different manufactures using cheaper stuff", it only had 2 problems one turn signal lens fell off the screw was striped out so ill have to put some glue in the plastic threads "no big deal easy to fix" and one handlebar locking bolt with the plastic knob is striped out so it will not tighten up.
no real riding it till i fix that. i did take it around the block a few times to break it in and get it running right.

to put the rear rack on i had to leave off one washer with the after market pipe it would not fit but it will not effect the safety or anything like that its the top shock mount and the rack mount takes the place of the washer.

the 17 tooth front sprocket it dose not fit real tight so you get some chattering when you first take off. at first i thought it was the chain hitting the chain guard but i removed it and the sprocket cover then checked the bolts that hold the sprocket on and they were tight but it had some play in the sprocket.
I'm not sure how to fix that yet i may have to get a better made sprocket.

when putting it together i was not sure what the extra black ground wire was for, it went in the wire harness so i put it on the negative terminal with the other wire and it seams to be where it needs to be. all lights work and it has a setting on the switch for "what i think is day time driving lights "the head light is on really low on that setting" or it may be parking lights.

a few modifications need to be made to it, the kick stand kill switch has got to go and the switch on the clutch switch also, this is normal on today's bikes i had to do the same thing with my KLR650.

the left hand controls still has the choke switch but its not needed with the choke mounted on the carburetor. i can always use a spare for the wife's bike.
build time on this bike was 1 hr from crate to firing it up. i still need to adjust the carburetor a little, it seams to be a little rich.
the shift pattern is 1 down 3 up and neutral is real fun to find with my boots on. i find it easier to just reach down and give it half a click up.

this bike has plenty of power and is a blast to ride.

if any one has and ? about it just ask ill do my best to answer it.

i was a little rushed taking the pictures trying to get some yard work completed at the same time as building the CT70.

the front fender is now leveled out so it will not hit the tire on full compression of the forks. in the picture you can see it is bent down some i missed that when i installed it. but its fixed now so is the blinker. I'm down to 2 problems the knob for the handle bars and the front sprocket chattering. its ridable as it is. but i want it perfect.

It looks like Ron at trail buddy is having phone problems i tried to call him and let him know how happy i am with this bike and its a phone co problem.

I'm really liking the black paint job.
in SC they it is easy to tag all i need is a MSO that says motorcycle, i already tagged the red one with no problem.

^^ who cares about how the yard looks, the bike sitting in the yard is gorgeous!

do you have to insure a bike like that in your state? if so, i'd like to know abouts how much you pay per month and who your provider is. just looking for rough figures for my own reference on that one.

well i found out why Ron at trail Buddy was having phone problems it was his home phone i was calling and his house burnt down.

i have a red 110 cc that i got from hooper imports and it cost me $124 a year for it but its a multi bike policy. ill post up when i add the 125cc bike and let you know how much it runs. i use Geico. both my bikes have full coverage on them and the new one will allso most likly.
