    Help to identify my Z50A

Hello, I'm a newbie to the Z50 world..

I just recently picked up a Z50A and need help to identify it.
I'm not sure how to tell what it is or even the year. No VIN Tag on the neck, just on the left rear of frame VIN# Z50A-374876.

    Not sure if it's a K0, K1, K2 or even the year.
It's a hard-tail. The Forks don't have a spot for the Reflectors, there is no battery box (but other parts are missing to), the Frame doesn't have a bracket for a key ignition (Could have been removed by a previous owner)

How does one tell these Z50's apart from each other?

    Thanks
    Steve

After viewing this website: Honda Z50A, Mini Trail

It looks as if I have the forks from a 68', and the frame of ????

The frame does have the mount spot for a tail light.

Is there a way to use the VIN# to find the Year and Model

    Thanks
    Steve

the frame number would suggest a k2. Does it have a foot brake mount, if so its k2. The forks are probably the originals, but i have found 50% of hardtails i have bought have had the headlight ears removed long ago

Hello, It does have a foot brake mount... How do you tell what it is by the VIN? Do you have a book/manual?

Also, on this same website: Honda Z50A, Mini Trail

In the "1970-71 Honda Z50AK2 Mini Trail bike" section there are 4 bikes shown. 4-Blue and 1-Red, which should mine look like. Is the Blue Bike the same model, it has a different badge on the tank?

    Thanks
    Steve

Post some pictures of your bike, the guys in these forums are experts and will help you identify.

    from your link,

    - red/white bike looks like a correct original 70-71 K2
    -blue/white bike incorrectly restored 70-71 K2 with a 69-70 K1 fuel tank
    -bottom blue/silver bike looks like a restored 69-70 K1

you should never really use restored bikes for a reference point as they are often hodge podged together with no real care for correctness. although there are purists out there that do 100% correct restorations.

also, check this link for reference
    Z50

this info was taken from the book "Honda motorcycle identification guide" 1959-88 OR 1959-2000
you can get this book form online retailers like Dratv or your local dealer, however there is no further Z50 info that is not in this link.

It is a K2 that has been modified. KO's still have a ignition switch bracket, plus this bike has the late style taillight mount anyway.
not to mention the foot brake. all evidence points to K2.
