    throttle cable

I notice some trail 70s have a red band around the throttle cable boot as it makes it's turn into the screw on cap whats the purpose is it just a clamp ? I just wonder if my 70 ever had one.

You have an eye for the details. It appears to be original on all the older 70's. I added the band to mine to make it appear authentic. Not sure why it's there.

Odd thing is current Honda packaged boots no longer have the red circle. Think Honda decided circumcisions were in order...................

I taped off the boot and used red model paint. My guess is that the red stripe was added once the carb and throttle were adjusted on test run of the engine at the factory.

Not sure about this.I think it all depended on which carb came with the bike as they did use different carbs.
I have some originals that have the stripe, and some that don't.

K3 has one and HK0 doesn't. K1 had it too. I think the Texan is on to something.
The K1 & K3 have the taller stack for the slide and hose nipples are pressed into the cast. The HK0 has a short stack and nipples have a brass 90 deg elbow. It might indicate that it needs a diff. length cable

Yup, thought so. Some of the original bikes have them and some don't.

    throttle cable boot

So may be I should get out the red electrical tape to look correct. Man I wish some one would have thought to take some good pictures of the 70 and not necessarly me,when it was new in 1970. The only one I have is a head on picture.
