Thread: Honda Nice ID/Serial #'s?

I have a lead on a possible NICE motor. How can I identify a true Honda NICE? Would appreciate serial # ID, like I can do with the CT motors..I looked this over previously & it has that 3rd engine mount on the cylinder, but I didn't get really close or a chance to look it over....I have an opportunity this weekend & would like to look at while being better informed...I think there were some ATC motors that have that 3rd mount..

You may want to look for an engine number starting with ZN110E.

There are several different motors with that third engine mount. ZN100E (Nice or Wave 100) have a different internal design (usable, but limited to 125cc), ZN125E (late Nice 125) don't fit CT70 engine mounts.

Late-production Nice motor S/Ns begin "ZN110TE". By this late date, some of these engines (Nice 110 or Wave 100) could have had the LH case half replaced or have no S/N at all. If you know what you're looking at, the Wave 100 is visibly shorter than the Nice 110. Be aware that there are 3 versions of the Nice 110 (manual 1d/3u, semi-auto in 1d/3u or rotary shift flavors), a Wave 110 as well as Wave 125 and Nice 125. In photos, the differences can be tough to spot.

The Wave 100 is also a quality piece. However, as Markus pointed out, max displacement is limited. It uses a shorter cylinder and the case castings are slightly different, preventing installation of a longer-stroke crank. The Wave 100 is a short-stroke motor (Nice is long-stroke), it also comes fitted with a smaller oil pump. The only externally-visible cue is the shorter cylinder.

I just recently bought a Honda nice 110 used the serial # is ZN110CE..anyone know this model?

Not familiar with the "CE" designation. However, if it fits Z50/CT70 engine mounts, you might want to check the shift pattern & clutch type. Honda offered the 110 Nice with a semi-automatic clutch and with rotary shifting (1-N-2-3-4-1-N-2-3-4 etc). Being able to shift directly from 4th to 1st is considered handy by some. Probably where there's just enough room to reach 50mph before the next traffic light. And, those bikes have gear position indicator lights. Lacking the lights, it's downright dangerous, IMO.

I also don't know, unfortunately. The parts lists at CMSNL (honda partsmanual fiche zn110cy zn110 partslist) do not show any obvious difference. I own them on paper, but everything (besides pictures and numbers) is in Thai language and the parts lists are basically the same - only differing in Thai sidenotes I do not understand - for all models.

I've also seen the semi-auto rotary shift engines (they have a different crank very limited regarding tuning because of the pretty weak centrifugal clutch) and have also seen casings with electric starter which are heavily sought by ATC owners. Also seen manual clutch rotary shift engines but don't know whether they were Honda built or Thai modified (pretty easy to add rotary shift to a ZN110E). Which one's what can probably only answered by somebody familiar with the Thai language.
