    1972 ct70 engine swap to 110 chinese

How hard is the electrical change over to 12 volts? Can you buy a engine/kit with everthing you need? I have been looking around the web,and have not seen any kits.

    Thanks from the CT70 noob.

    Welcome.

I'm sure that there are a number of sources for the sort of components you are hunting. One of the favorites around here is:

    CHANGING_ENGINES? L@@K__HERE!!! INSTALLATION_PARTS

It looks like most of his stuff is plug and play. I have heard some complaints from folks that tried using the 6V regulator with engines designed to be 12V, but otherwise the press has all been pretty good on DrATVs stuff. There's a starting point for you.

When I did mine I used Beatrice wiring stuff and keep the 6v. system that way if I didn;t like It would be easy to go back. Also the bike is a H model and wanted to keep it mosty stock. the only two problems I found where (1) the wiring harness where the eng plugs in to the wiring adapter from Dr atv I had to change one of the bullet conectors to female the green one ( might have been the eng I used) and (2) I keep blowing headlites, I found the 6v. reg dosen't reglate the head lite circut, so I replaced the head lite with a 12v and its been fine. hope this helps. grant

I have a chinese 110 pitbike motor I could swap in. I doubt it has a lighting circuit though. Can you put one in?

Right now I'm focusing on getting the original engine running right, and my 13yo girl used to riding it. Then a engine over the winter.

How fast will these thing go with an 100cc?

I tried keeping the 6v but eventually tossed in the towel and went to 12v. New bulbs, blinker, and battery, then just use the 12 v regulator the engine came with. Oh and a headlight yea. Now I only need to replace a $2 bulb not a $35 sealed beam! I did that twice then said to heck with it. I think the 6 volt regulator couldn't deal with the 12 engine well and burned out the headlight. That got old fast. The 12v battery holder on dratv was tight but worked in my K3. The blinkers and lights all seem to be better now. Another bonus is the signal bulbs are easy to find now that it's 12v.

What color and how many wires are coming out of the stator in your Chinese engine? The CDI ignition will work with only 3 wires (or 2 if it grounds through the cases) but if you've got 5-6 wires you probably have a charging and lighting coil.

I've seen some sellers on ebay that offer replacement stators with a charging/lighting coil, but it's usually up to you to make it work. If you're feeling daring you can do it.
