    Here's one in Wisconsin

    COLLECTOR HONDA CT-70

    He says it's a 71, but I'm thinking 72?

Gosh, I wish I had the money, but I'm spending it all on the one that isn't even finished yet in my shop. This is an expensive hobby. Believe me, if I had the money, I'd be taking a trip this Friday.

Well, believe it or not, this thing was still available, so I drove 3 hours Monday night to get it. It brings a few questions to mind. First of all, are the VIN numbers supposed to match the numbers on the tag that's riveted to the steering column?
I've got two of these bike now, both with titles, and neither of them match. That seems real odd to me, but when it happened on the second bike I bought, I thought maybe this was normal???

The paint job on it may have been done with a 9 year old kid and his box of crayolas. It's awful, and considering the job they did, I'm wondering why they even bothered to do it.
It runs, and compression is excellent, but it does kinda sputter and stutter when you give a quick twist on the throttle. Right now, this could be from a number of things. It's got the typical leak in the exhaust that we all know about. It's also sucking air on the intake due to rotted rubber boots where the air cleaner connects to the carb. Also missing the clamp for that, so its a very loose fit with cracks and holes in it.

All in all, most of the real important stuff is in great shape. It rides real nice, shifts through all the gears real smooth, and all the chrome is in pretty nice shape. Some small pits, but not a lot, and no dents.

Congrats! Which vin numbers? The engine - no. Frame and tag - yes.

Yeah, I was talking about the vin on the title, compared to the tag on the steering column. They don't match on either of my bikes. How the heck does that even happen where they don't match?

Well the one I dealt with was DMV's mistake, left off the "C" in "CT70H -xxxxxx. They simply traced and then changed it and off I went. Is the bike registered same state as you live?

Yeah, it's registered in the same state. This title I have in hand says it was issued on 5-10-94, so it doesn't appear to be the original.
