Don't put off changing the oil!

Well pulled off the clutch cover off the 69 I bought 3 weeks ago. Knew the clutch was bad, could hardely kick start it and would not move under its own power. This is what I found: A screen that was almost pluged up solid, Clutch material every where, A LOT of goop! One clutch disc that all the clutch lining was gone! and at least 1/8" deep gunk in the bottom of the cover and crankcase! this bike has 405 miles on it. The rest of the bike shows almost no wear. I think it was in 2nd or 3rd all the time taking off from a stand still a lot, I don't know, but everyone should pull the clutch cover on a bike when they first get it before it gets damaged from riding with all that crude in it.

Amazing! You can actually see the sludge line where the old oil sat for 40 years. This motorcycle is the Red one you just bought that rode on the back of an RV, right?

Now that's a dirty screen . Think I'd rinse some kerosene thru the inside .

Yesterday affter I took off the cover I bought 2 gal of kerosene, I would dump in about a quart shake it and dump it. After about 10 times it came out clear. I'm going to run it about 20 miles and pull the cover again, and see how it looks.

I don't know yet. for now I've cleaned it as well as I can I'm going to put it back in the bike and run it for 10 or 15 min. drain the oil and see how dirty it looks. and go from there. If it looks bad I might as well split the case's and clean it out, Its a shame it has really good comp, and its tight.

I agree completly, we don't have to reinvent the wheel here. The guy I work for has a funny saying, "When I was young I would take an old beat up car and try to make it new, now as I get older I like to take new car's and make them old!" lol

I liked your comment Grant about work
"We have done so much with so little for so long, Now we attempt the impossible with nothing!"
That's is perfect for my work also!
