    Information on plating in Illinois?

Just purchased a '72 4-speed. Just got my paperwork from ITS (very east to deal with byt the way). Has anyone had experience (trouble, etc) using this paperwork to get title here in Illlinois. I cant find any information on the DMV website on street legal rules, etc. THANKS

If your state requires inspections, make sure the bike has whatever equipment that a regular road bike of the same year was required to have. Normally that will be headlight, tail/brakelight, horn, working brakes, legal tires and an appropriate street approved muffler. Depending on the year, blinkers may be required. In Washington, I cannot even find a requirement for signals - even now. If you don't have signals in Oregon, you can't ride at night since the "signals" aren't visible at night.

Washington does not require inspections currently, so my ITS paperwork was as simple as if I had a title.

Illinois title and plate with ITS follow u

Just got back from the IL DMV and had NO problems whatsoever getting a plate and title for my 72. I used the ITS paperwork that had sent me from the state of Alabama without a hitch. They did not ask me for proof of insurance though I had it with me.

As a fellow Illinois resident I'm curious, did you have to pay sales tax? I have a title for mine but I never transfered it. I know on a car or truck you pay a tax for the age of the vehicle up to a certain year then when it gets to a certain age it's a flat fee. I know compared to other states, Illinois is not very strict. I was thinking about getting a title for my '76 MR 250 and trying to get plates for it also

Also in Illinois you can't get a M license unless you take your test on a bike that needs a M endorsement. Class L is up to 150cc and M is for any size. Many years ago I took mine on a 175. You just showed up with a legal bike, took the written test then the tester watched you ride around. Now I believe you have to go to a driving course then when you pass that you go to the DMV and they have you drive thru cones etc to see if you can handle a bike. This is where a smaller bike is better, you don't want to fall down in front of them!
