Thread: Information regarding Trail70place.com

I have been planning on registering trail70place.com for some time now, and i noticed last month that someone had registered the name, and THEN redirected this webboard to the site. So now when you visit trail70place.com you are brought to this webboard. So i was curious and did a whois lookup on the register of the domain. I was surprised however that who ever registered it did it secretly through a company called Domains by Proxy, Inc. This prevents from seeing who owns the domain.

What i am getting at here..Anyone on this board that has any information who might own this name or know anything about this please contact me ASAP. Im not not necessarly upset.. just curious. Thanks again for your time.

I suspect stuff like this happens more often than people know. When I went to search for domain names for my wife's business, I noticed the exact and most appropriate domain name became registered the exact same day as I did a search. If I recall, it happened more than once. The privacy thing is getting more common and godaddy.com is big into that. My day job is director of IT - not to say I'm an expert but I will tap into my resources and try to find out more.

What's interesting though is that the pointed it back to here.....

Domains by proxy is a service available through godaddy, maybe others. Like anything else, it has good and bad points. It'd be pretty scary to have one's personal contact information no more than a few mouse clicks away, so in that regard a nominal degree of privacy is good. I'd be a little concerned when someone is anonymously directing traffic to a particular site. For now, it's a good thing. But, being older and more suspicous, I have to wonder if at some point traffic may be redirected (hijacked?)to another site. Is someone doing you a favor or planning something in the longterm?

Since there isn't much that can be done about this, if it's even a concern, the best thing might be a dedicated IP address for this forum. That way it'd start showing up in search engines. It wouldn't take all that much to build this place into quite a solid little community.

Thats what i am confused about. I could see how it would be a favor, but at the same time why hide your user information and such, it seems very "sneaky" and i did like the domain trail70place.com. But im sure there are hundreds of other combinations i could choose from. Hopefully sometime soon i can drop some money on a new domain name ($6-8 a year is cheap). Any suggestions for a catchy name?
