    New to the Forum !!

    Hey, I'm newbie captbruce...
I just got this CT70, sold to me as a 1977... paid $100
2400 miles. Ran great on testdrive, shifted kinda hard. I thought the idle was kinda high. When I got it home, it started on first kick, it idled way higher then before, and while I was trying to figure out how to adjust the idle, it revved up way high then after a bit, stalled out. OH !! it has no Airbox...
Restarted on first kick, and did the same thing again.
I put it away. It it "Africa", hot outside.
Today I put more fuel in it and will try again, but I decided to try to find a forum on the web, and here I am. You guys were #1 on my Google search.

    I attached two pixs.

I'm sure I can get it running good, before too long. After all WE are the Humans... IT's only a machine... !!?? right ?

Before you start it up again, check that your throttle cable isn't attached incorrectly. There is a throttle slide valve that screws into the top of the carb and that needs to seat in there one way and one way only. There is a little raised notch on the outside of the carb chimney and the part of the throttle slide valve with the slot running vertically up and down the length of the valve needs to slide into that notch on the inside, otherwise, your slide valve will get stuck on WOT, and you'll rev like a crazy when you start it. Also, your throttle cable itself may be too short. Check under the rubber sleeve on the cable to make sure it's all good and well.

Nice catch - wish I could find a runner for twice or even three times that.

You've found the right place, I'm a new CT70 owner (been a long time anyway), I've found everything I need to know here.

Your next stop - Buy a Clymer manual, dont buy a Honda shop manual, you can download it here for free.

You should ride that like you stole it, because you did! Nice deal. It actually looks pretty darn nice, even if you had paid a lot more. Pick up a repro seat off of E-bay for cheap, give it a good cleaning and you'll be in fat city!

    Congrats and welcome.

    Thanks

Thanks, guys. I got the manual from this site.
The left side sproket cover is cracked but still in one piece. One screw is missing, two were loose but one, is frozen with about 1/2" of the bolt not threaded in all the way.
As far as the seat. The pan and foam look good. maybe I just need a cover ?

The lights don't work. Is it because there is NO battery ? Where can I get a battery ? and I understand it's a 6V system ?

I haven't worked on it since I first wrote. I will look at it today, while it still kinda cool out.

Click here to find the battery you need
Click your bike on the left side of the screen and scroll through the parts.

And the seat cover is there too. Under "seat covers" $35.00 if I recall.

On the screw - it could just be the wrong screw (too long) and bottoming out in the hole. Otherwise get some PB Blaster and soak it a bit, then back it out. You may need to chase the threads with a tap.

For factory chain cover new, get it here (http://dratv.com/flywcovk0.html) for less than E-bay seems to go for. I have also seen some sellers with a late model clone cover that should fit fine, but is not correct for that motor. Seems to end up around $30 shipped.

The seat I was speaking of was complete for under $50 shipped to me. Nice quality, and all new. I didn't know if your pan was good, most are cracked, some past fixing. If the foam and pan are good, then a cover would be fine - though a bit more work to get it looking right.

To get the lights to work, get a battery first, as it helps keep from blowing the bulbs - which is probably most of your problem. The taillignt bulb can be sourced at Walmart - standard 6 volt tail/brake bulb. They can also be found here (http://dratv.com/noname157.html) along with several options for the front bulb.

The front bulb only lights with the engine running! The taillight won't work if the little ground wire at the bracket mounting screw (just under the back of the seat) is not grounding well. Other than those obvious ones, you may have a wire broken somewhere. Get a wiring diagram (in the clymer or factory manual) and trace them out.
