    Oil for CT70

Since I am new to these bikes, don't beat me for asking
    such a basic question

What oil do you guys run in these bikes?

The Dax I picked up has oil that looks pretty thin for a motorcycle. Should I use a special motorcycle oil, what weight?
    Thanks

Castrol GTX 10W40 in the cool months and Castrol GTX 20W50 in the warm and hot months here in Texas. Castrol GTX is as good as any motorcycle oil and a lot cheaper. Motorcycle oil is a ripoff con job.

L/C is probably very close to nailing the truth on this one, though I've seen pretty convincing proof that some synth formulations actually do have better film strength. Problem is they're too slippery and will cause clutch slip, making such oil a non-issue. I run Honda GN4, 20W50 and only ride in t-shirt weather, giving the bike a long warmup, allowing the oil temp to reach at least 70-80C before taking off. GN4 oil is only a semi-ripoff, around $3/quart but at least you now what you're getting. 6 quarts is about enough to get through a season, so for an extra $6 a year I can afford the extravagance

I still say the best oil is clean oil. Just get an appropriate weight bike formulation (it has the correct friction modifiers to work with a wet clutch), change it frequently and clean the oil spinner every 1000 miles or so and your engine should last a very long time.
