I am curious to know what everyone wears for street riding. Im sure most of us are guilty of the quick tshirt and shorts ride at some point. What do you think is proper gear for street riding?

I live in California, so I wear a helmet. Otherwise, jeans and boots, or shorts and tennies. Because of the nature of my stock bike, I only drive on low mph streets - I don't think accidents will be a problem. But, hey, I don't gear up too significantly on my Magna or Vulcan, either. I finally bought a jacket with armor, but I still tend to wear jeans and hiking boots.
Cheers!

Well in the past whenever I rode a cycle I just wore shorts or jeans and tennis shoes just like you do. After seeing and hearing about all the horrible injuries you can get from sliding along the pavement Im considering getting something more substantial to protect me. The thought of bone trails makes me cringe.
I'll tell you this is my second trail bike and growing up i had a 73' ko and i always used a helmet no matter what. I fell on my first one thank god the bike didn't get messed up but i got scratched up on the other hand. When it comes to motorcycles safety is always first no matter what. I live in florida and it is always 80+ degrees and i always were thick sneaker not nike shocks or anything thin like that and jeans or long pants. I have to say my rule of thumb for riding these bikes is make sure what you are wearing will protect you if and may you fall...
I'm not advocating anyone do what i do; i was just answering your question. I know the MSF says ATGATT (all the gear, all the time). I have been riding bikes continually (as a main form of transport) since 1970, and i'm just saying what works for me.
I will also say that I am the world's most defensive driver, and I am pretty chicken on two wheels. I really believe the only thing that will protect you is to not have the accident. Everything else on the road is bigger than you, and very dangerous.
But, like i said, i do have an armored jacket now, and a couple pair of gloves. I still haven't worn them on the CT70, however...
Cheers!

Even on the CT70 I tend to wear at a minimum Jeans, boots and I got one of those Mesh Armoured jackets. I know what it's like to come off, and the benefits of protective gear. I race sidecars (as a passenger) and came off at about 175kph (luckily we were going slow, as "fast" is about 300kph. I had on all the right gear, and basically when I stopped sliding, I checked for oncoming racers, and when it was clear, stood up and walked off the track. I was a bit achy, and bruised, but otherwise fine. Forty dollars of leather repair later, and I'm wearing the same leathers today. I guess that because of this, I always put on "all the gear all the time". And like they say, "If you think you don't need a helmet, you are probably right". Ride Safe!
