1970 K0 runs wide open when started

I just changed my throttle cable and adjusted the throttle needle. It was on the notch closest to the needle point. I moved it to the first notch closest to the blunt end. These were the only changes I made to the bike.

The bike ran good before I changed this cable. It Idle smoothly with no problems. Now when I start it, It revs up as if its running wide open. I swapped the throttle needle around so that the silver piece with the curved section was on both the intake and the exhaust side, but it still runs wide open.

I also set the idle screw 1 3/4 turns out and it still does this. Lastly I even fully closed the idle screw (all the way tight) and It still runs wide open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you positive you got the right length throttle cable? If you did, then
you have got the carb slide in 180 degrees off. Turn it 180 degrees and you should be good to go. This happens quite frequently.

I have turned the slide for the throttle cable around many times, but it still runs wide open. I did open the carb and clean the bowl a little bit, but I did not take anything apart, not even the float.

This is the exact cable I bought. *THROTTLE CABLE BLACK CT70K0/HK0 (0012)

OK, next up on the ol throttle cable is this lesson. There are two styles of carb caps short style and long style. Post up a pic of your carb and we'll tell you what style you have.

These are the best pictures I can get of both sides if you needed them. (I bought the cable I did because the link said it was for the K0 model, which I have.)

Even though I have tried to flip the slide around from intake side to exhaust side several times, which is the correct way its supposed to be? Which side does the open side go on?

The long split in the slide should be on the right side (as your sitting on it) with the little notch on the bottom of the slide to the left.

The long split rides on a nylon pin that keeps the slide from rotating - why you ask - because the little notch on the left side is where the idle screw does its magic.

    Hope this helps a little

Slot lines up on right side of bike (as you're sitting on it). Picture shows notch where slot lines up:
