Thread: 1971 CT70 wont start

    1971 CT70 wont start

    recently bought, had been sitting. i have just put a new coil, spark plug and cap as well as cleaned the carb, fresh gas and new lines. still wont start.

    ps. NO SPARK
    any suggestions?

    Try cleaning the points with a fingernail file. The points might just be stuck shut.

    Is there a battery hooked up? on the battery plug in to the bike theres an extra black wire loop that needs to be there or no spark. hope this might help.

    I actually have a brand new battery that I havent even put in yet because someone told me these bikes dont need a battery to run, thanks alot

    Most likely cause is bad or dirty points or your condensor is shot.

    If you don't have any battery in it at all you will need to put one in or jumper the two black wires out.

    They will run without a battery, but yes will have to jump the two black wires that are in the plug the battery hooks into. The battery runs the horn, brake lites, and tail lites when the eng. is off. also helps to prevent a large voltage surge from blowing out the same lites when the motor is reved up. take care Grant
