Got a 1979 CT70 with only 693miles. It drained gas when i unscrewed the drain plug, its getting spark. Poured some gas in the cylinder and it wanted to start up but now its doing the same thing. Any help is appreciated..
Thanks,
Brandon

When these bikes sit for years and you want to return them to service, number 1 chore is to remove the gas tank drain it, wash it out, drain it again, new gas lines if it needs it and a carb rebuild and be sure to clean out the holes on the idle jet and the main jet holder. Do this and if you have spark they will usually run. hope this helps,

clean the carb and tank, the 79 has a metal tank, there may be rust in there and is clogging up the carb.

do a full tune up. Everything on this list is easy to do. Don't be intimidated, you need to learn this stuff if you want to own a bike.
1. Valve tappet clearances
2. Point gap and timing
3. Carb cleaning and adjusting
You'll need a feeler gauge that can reach the points, which is pretty narrow on these bikes. Put in a new spark plug, too. You can find the procedure for all this in the owners manual, which can be found via google.
Good luck!

Alright so it starts up but wont stay running and will only start with full choke. Cleaned the carb out twice, seems like its not getting gas to the cylinder? Any info is appreciated.
Clean the carb again. Clean every small hole you see. Only takes one small hole to be clogged and the bike will not run right.
Blew it out with carb cleaner and every hole and still nothing. I guess ill take it apart again anything else?
carefully remove the main and pilot jets to clean it out better.you may need compressed air.

Sound kinda like the problem I had. I cleaned and cleaned until I finaly changed my throttle cable and my problem was solved. Turns out my cable was streached so I didn't get tension on the carb to keep it idleing.
Alright it starts and stay running but still cant take it off choke..?
