I have tried to adjust the carb on the idle screw but nothing so far. Any recommended settings? The gaskets still good
Applying the choke "chokes" the bike of air, enrichening the mixture. If your bike only runs when choked, it's running too lean and the choke is compensating for that. Remember my first reply? Do all of that. Timing can affect how rich your bike is. Also, verify the float height is correct. This will affect your mixture. Also verify that you have an air filter on it, and let us know if it's stock.

It does have an air filter but i have a question should the breather line from the air box be capped off i noticed that tonight. Also as far as i know its stock.
I have a '79 CT70 too. That is not a "breather hose" and it does need to be capped. It is an emission hose and only needs to be uncapped periodically for draining purposes.
