    Another carb issue.

Hope I'm not beating a dead horse here but here goes. The main jet in my carb got gunked up from a dirty tank. I have pulled and cleaned the tank, new lines with filters and removed the carb and cleaned out the jets with brake clean. The bike starts and idles great, but off idle it boggs and coughs and does not want to run. The carb is a new one from Moto Enzo, I am to blame for
most likely allowing crud from my old tank to get in it. The previous mentioned work is after speaking with Enzo and following his advice to the letter. Question? Is there anyway to get one of these little carbs cleaned out without damaging the o-rings or seals? I noticed another member soaked his over night
in carb cleaner which did not seem to help? That is strange since usually that does the trick. While apart I checked the tiny holes in the jets with my K&L wire jet gauges although some of them are even smaller than my smallest gauge! Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If your carb was dirty enough to block the main, the screen would be packed full most definitely. If its the carb i am thinking of there should be a screen you can get to where the gas lines go in...Use brake cleaner and compressed air to make sure the pilot is clear also. I assume you have a metal tank, swap it out for a plastic one. It will save you headaches in the future and alot of k1's actually came with plastic tanks. So it will still be "correct".

    Just a thought...

I too purchased one of Enzo's carbs. Installed it on a stock CT70. One that was not rebuilt. Now I understand your worries with the crud and whatever but I do want to relate my experience. The carb I bought would make the bike purr like no other at idle. It would run good until I reached upper range. Then I would also get the bogging and missing. I read some threads here and found this could be the result of the main jet's size. So I removed the #58 from the stock carb I had, installed it in the new carb (at this point I haven't devuldged into it enough to determine what size main came with the new carb) and presto magico the new carb now peforms perfectly...

    72 carb woes

Thanks Redrider & Harry, I have a plastic tank which I have washed out with a mild soap and water. I also replaced the lines and filters. I will take the carb back off and check the filter inboard where the fuel lines connect. I did not completely dissasemble the carb. I did take out the main and pilot jets and clean them, but I have no idea what size a stock main jet is on a CT 70? I'll check my manual, hopefully it will list it. Harry, what size main jet did you put in your bike? Mine starts and idles fine, but when you try to run up the revs it pops, sputters and just runs like crap. I might have the old carb in a box at home, if so I'll see if the main jet is still there and what size it is. Maybe its larger and will help this thing run right?

I still haven't checked what size came with the new Enzo but the stock jet, same one I installed, is #58. Cheap and plentiful from dratv. Scratch that - I tried to check the one came with the new carb. Looks like #53, #55 or #65. So I still don't know...

OK checked with Clymer (doancha just love those books over the original Honda ones?) and since I'm presuming this carb he sells is for '78's on, the one came in it is #55. #58 is stock for pre '78.
