    Backfire

What would be the main cause of backfire.
Would it be a timing adjustment problem.

Main cause would be improper timing due to points gap not opening at the F mark. Running lean can simulate backfires. A worn engine, stretched timing chain can cause this to a lesser degree.

Here is a list of backfire problems on bikes with CDI (electronic points). Should apply here:
    Backfire problems

1- The choke is mal adjusted or out of adjustment.
2- The fuel may be old.
3- The fuel lines are kinked.
4- The fuel filters may be clogged up due to being left standing for so long.

Another thing that can cause backfiring is not having a crush gasket between exhaust port and where the exhaust connects - However if you've ridden this bike before with no backfires thats prolly not the problem because those don't wear out really - I bet its just your fuel mixture adjustment - I had that problem when I put in a new engine myself
