    Carb float issue

Hey guys, I had a problem with the Koinig carb on my 81 CT. I took it apart and noticed the float was full of gas. I bought a new float but I am a little confused on how to adjust it. I have read a couple of threads that say "when the body is flipped upside down the float level should be parallel to the body edge" or something like that. I installed it like that and it flooded immediatly and lots of gas came out the overflow tube.

So here is the issue: I assume the float level is supposed to be set when the float is hanging in the upright position, upright meaning the same position as when it is installed on the bike. Is this correct? The new float does have a tab on the back which I could bent but it would only effect the float level in the upright position.

I'm confused, any help would be appreciated. The bike has been running fine up until about two weeks ago.

You measure the float height with the carb tilted 90 degeres or so so the tang of the float just touches the needle, then you measure from the body of the carb where the float bowl screws on to the highest part of the float and on your year it should be .420 just a hair under 7/16in hope this helps.
