    carb leak

    1991 Honda CT 70
    Problem leaking carb float valve
Carb was leaking slightly out overflow tube on garage floor. Replaced carb gaskets and float valve with a new one. Repair seemed to last a couple of weeks but now leaking again. New float needed? Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you
    Bob

If it only leaks when parked, try propping the bike up closer to vertical. Most CT70s lean too far over, the result of bent kickstands and loose/worn pivot bolts. Might as well start with the obvious (and easy). There's been more than one "mysterious" fuel leak cuased by this.

If that doesn't fix it, my experience is that the float could be sinking or the needle/seat aren't sealing. Either one will let gas continue to flow into the bowl and get higher than the overflow tube. My float had a pinhole leak and gradually filled up with gas.... You could also try turning the gas petcock valve off when parking it.

    Fixed

I replaced the carb needle, that helped but did not solve. Then I put in a new float and that took care of it. Perhaps the old float had a small leak or had lost bouyancy. Next time I will do needle and float together. Thanks folks.
