Chain Connector Question. Can Multiples be used

I want to be able to change the rear sprocket based on need (trail vs road), I have a 38T, 35T(factory) , 33T and 31T rears. If I go from the factory 35T to the 31T the chain is way to long so I will have to cut it. My question is, can I use more that (1) Chain connector without having a safety issue. I was going to cut the stock chain and use (1) connector for the 31T setup and then when I go back to the 35T put the excess chain back on using a 2nd Connector

    i.e.:
    31T ooooooooooooooCoooooooooo
    35T ooooooooooooooC0000Cooooooooo
(0000 being the extra chain between a set of connectors)

So, is this safe and acceptable?

also, are these chains Cut only? I am use to mountain bike chains where you use a tool like:

    http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...1996_139922823

To disassemble/reassemble a chain w/o cutting. I would like to know if there is an easy option to unassemble rather than perm cut a chain

The master link has gotten a bum rap over the years. How many times have you heard of, or experienced, a failed master link? Honda used the twin master link arrangement on early model CT90s. Before the 2-speed sub-transmission, these bikes were fitted with two wheel sprockets for road/trail use. For a CT70 I wouldn't worry about it; as long you orient the locking clips correctly there shouldn't be a problem.

I got a chain cutter today and cut out 2 links and added a pair of pirelli sl60's and a 31T rear. Couldnt top it out yet. Dont have a good area to test ride where I live.

How do you adjust the 2 rear chain adjusters and know its straight? I basically just eyeballed both side to make sure the threading appeared even.

Also, my 1971 CT70K0 has an unusual amount of factory chrome.
I have the 71 receipts. The owner had Honda alter the factory
exhaust to the bottom for his wife and added chrome wheels,
a chrome trailing arm and other items. He also de-emblemed it.
I Havent seen another like it.

That's actually pretty cool, done with tasteful restraint. I'd bet that those mods were done by the dealer. In the early `70s chrome plating shops were easy to find. The only negative is that the sidebadge incuses look kinda bare with those exposed holes (and I'm nitpicking). Usually, I see sidebadge-free CTs with the incuses filled flush with the rest of the frame...and it's a good look. Early model ST70s (non-USA spec version of the CT70) came right from Honda fitted with a low-mount exhaust unique to the model...and different from your modded K0 exhaust. They used offset buddy peg mounts to raise the rear pegs above the muffler. It looks like your bike had an ST70 luggage rack installed at one time, that's probably what removed the paint from the rearmost holes in the frame. The chrome wheels and swingarm are nice touches, along with the polished clutch cover. A chromed swingarm also doesn't chip easily from chain contact, unlike paint.

Looks like you own a unique piece of CT70 history...one worth holding onto.

I like the look of the exhaust but I wonder what part of the pipe flexes when the swing arm moves?

It clears. I was told that the owner (im 3rd owner) had honda relocate the exhaust as the factory setup kept burning his wifes leg.

I have seen a lot of people complain about changing tires and having a rust issue. This K0 has chrome rims inside and out. When I added the pirelli's, there was 0 rust in the rims. The factory tires just peeled off with wedium effort. I only noticed today doing the picts that even the bolt heads for the tires are chromed

    Gary,

I will have to check the flex issue. I think this was an onroad bike only.

Does your paperwork state what they charged back then for the upgrades ? That would be interesting to know.

The exhaust work was $10.00 based on 1 labor hr.

    The chrome footpegs were $6.00
    The Chrome wheels were $35.00

There are not receipts for any other add ons so Im guessing the rest of the chrome was on the bike when purchased
