    Clutch Rebuild -- Difficulty level

On a scale of 1 to 10 ( 10 = take it to a shop ), how hard is it to rebuild 4 speed manual clutch and replace springs??

    Bike is 1970 trail 70.

I replaced the piston, rings, and head and consider this a level 4 ( relatively easy ). How hard is clutch in comparison?

I am afraid of tackling the clutch for some reason.

    Opinions?

Go for it,it's not that bad.The hardest part to me is getting the clutch linkage back in on an automatic. I helped me just to lay the bike on it's side when putting the side cover back on. You really need to to do it to clean the centrifugal oil filter anyway. Get yourself the right clutch nut removal tool CLUTCH NUT TOOL 4_PRONG ALL_70_90 &_110'S SOME Z50A'S AND ALL Z50R'S(4PR). Be sure to get a new tab washer, clutch plates and springs, clutch outer cover gasket, case cover gasket. You might need 3 clutch outer cover screws also, Honda part # 93600-05010-oa screw, flat 5x10,they always seem to get buggered up.This is assuming you have an automatic.

I say its the same level as the piston and rings, pretty easy. Use a c-clamp to put it back together, pretty easy, not much involved in them.

It's about a 3 on the level scale. The 4 speed is easer clutch then the auto to do. Gary's right get the screws ahead of time but you'll need 4 of them the manual clutch takes 4. Most of the work is getting the cover off. but the you won't have trouble getting the cover back on like the auto's are. I use a drill press to compress the springs but "C" clamps work fine too.

Sorry I didn't see you had a manual in your 1st post, but that will make it easier. Not counting any case screws you might need or the 4 clutch cover screws you need, it would be under 40 bucks on here CT70_ENGINE TRANSMISSION including the clutch tool. You might need a new clutch nut tho if someone has been inside before you. Take it apart first before you order so you get everything you need.
