    coil question

i bought a 1973 70 trail that was burnt under the seat so i needed wire harness and coil, well i got the wire harness and it doesnt seem to be the same as what was on the bike (couple of the plug ends seem to have a small 3 wire coupler or a 4 wire coupler)

    1) on the coil you have the plug wire where does the other wire plug into?

    2) there are 4 wires coming out of block (stator) i cant tell what coupler they go to

    any help would be great!!

The other wire goes to ground, I believe on one of the ignition coil studs. As for the stator wires, there should be a matching male connector somewhere on the wiring harness. Just look and see which connector has the same colored wires coming from it.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the ignition coil, so the one end goes to the spark plug, the other smaller gauge wire goes to the wiring harness, it SHOULD be black and usually plugs into another single black wire by the battery.

I knew he was talking about the ignition coil, I just couldn't remember where it grounded (I guess I was thinking about how the stator coil grounds). Thanks for the correction.

i have mine torn apart for some maintenance, so here is a photo of the wiring in that area less the battery. can't guarantee it hasn't ever been modified (just got this thing), but it may be helpful. note the small wire coming from the coil (underneath the larger one which looks like its attached to the coil but runs through the frame) is attached to the black wire going into the larger wiring wrap the runs up the frame tube toward the front of the bike. This connection is the white male/female connector on the far left of the picture. In the first picture i drew a green line along the wire to highlight it...

Just to clarify, that wire is not a ground wire - it's the wire that energizes the coil (ie, if you ground it, it will not work). The coil grounds through the mounting bolts.

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/dratv_2125_283448877 This link will provide you with a fully colored wiring diagram for your ct70. It is also equipped with zoom, best one I have found out of them all. Good luck
