Thread: Engine dies after 1/2 mile of wide open

I figure this is a carb problem? If I hold the throttle wide open the engine will die, almost like it runs out of gas, after about a 1/2 mile. however if I back off 3/8" of an inch I can ride all day. This is a chinese style carb, but this is the only thing I can find wrong, any help would be appreciated.

Is it a new carb or has it been rebuilt? Have you played with the needle adjustment or the idle adjustment?

Try opening the carb bowl drain and see if you get a good flow out the drain hose. Also make sure your gas cap vent is turned to the ON possition.

Chinese carbs seem prone to this, no idea why. Try raising the float, this often cures the problem, as long as it's not a fuel flow restriction from the tank (blocked vent, pinched hose, crap in the line or a blocked fuel filter screen).
