    Footpeg probs with 125cc Zongshen

I have a Zongshen 125 I'm tring to put into a Trail 70. I realized today that my stock footpeg assembly will not fit. I saw a refit kit on a website somewhere but I can remember for the life of me where it was. Does anyone know where these can be purchased or where peg that will fit can be bought?

    Thanks!

If you used slightly longer bolts and made some spacers to go between the peg assembly and the engine would that work?
    .
E-mail ebay seller coloradokiteski , he has the China reproduction footpeg sets for the CT-70 that should work. If not there are always some on e-bay. I didnt have any problems adapting my CT-70 clone footpeg assemblies to the zongshen 125. On the XR-70 and CRF 70 dirtbikes I converted I would start all 4 bolts by hand and tighten them down and let the pegs bend themself into place then pry on them gently to get some more space.

I used a Jincheng footrest assembly when I had a Z108 motor in my bike. The Zongers, and most of the larger engines, are wider than the original engine. Sourcing a Chinese replacement is the simplest fix since they will likely be configured for one of these engines. If all else fails, there's cutting and welding, but that's a pretty drastic approach for most people.

Some additional seller's of Chinese repops:
    green_dragon_imports (ebay)
    coomagoods (ebay)
    hooper imports
    Powerbike USA

You might also contact the seller from whom you purchased the engine.

I was looking at my pegs for most of last night. I'm not so sure that just adding a spacer will work. I think I will either have to move the entire peg assembly back so that the front mounting holes on pegs bolt into the rear holes on the motor. I would, of course, have to make a bracket to reinforce the assembly. Or, I could cut the pegs off and weld in about 1 inch of tubing on each side. This should allow the pegs to clear the side covers. I wish I would have seen this before I powder coated everything!

Things might look better if you temporarily slow your roll...

If you have the skills to cut & weld the assembly to fit, then you also have lots of options. Not having the benefit of actually seeing how the footrest asembly fits (or more accurately, doesn't fit) your motor, i can only make some wild guesses.

If the assembly can be made to work by simply relocating it aft, then you could make an adapter plate from 1/4" steel. Drill holes in the plate to fit the engine, then drill holes that match the footrest bracket, cut the heads from 4 bolts and plug weld them to the plate...instant studs. 1/4" lowering will be undetectable. Your new finish is unmolested, problem solved, world saved, crisis averted

Should it be necessary to cut and section the assembly, then either source a Chinese copy (should be cheap and might be a bolt-in anyway) or find a rough footrest assembly to modify on ebay and sell the powdercoated one. I've seen these selling in the $50 range recently; a nicely refinished example with black powdercoat should bring more. By the time you're done you'll have something with a tailored fit and be a few bucks up on the deal as well. Problem solved, world saved, crisis averted...

I agree that moving the pegs back would be the easiest thing to do. But the only problem with that is the left peg should actually be moved out 1.25 inches to maintain 'stock' specs. By just moving them back, I will 1.25 inches less room to put my foot on! Also, my wife may have probs shifting if the peg are moved back!! I'm thinking the cut and weld may be the best option. I know a very good welder...If I do the cutting he can do the welding and Tremclad can do the rest.

That's what makes customizing fun, there's more than one "right" answer There's also the satisfaction that comes from working through something like this. Once it's done, you truly own it

Well, I had my pegs widened!!! They cut the pegs off right near end and then added about and inch onto each side (5/8 on the left and 1" on the right). Now the fit perfectly!!! I just have to recoat them...again.
