    help with clutch rebuild

I am about to replace the clutch in my K1, a friend of mine told me to soak the new plates in oil before I install them, Is this true? the manual does not say anything about presoaking the plates,
    Also
Is there anything else I should be aware of when disassembling or reassembling the clutch?
    thanks

Get a manual. The clutch plates are wet when running, so oiling them beforehand would be bad, or particularly good I wouldn't think.

You many have some trouble getting the 3 phillips screws off of the clutch plate top.

I soak them, but agree with steampick that it's probably harmless overkill. Friction discs are not sponges. They should at least be oiled, pre-assembly. Dry-starting any components that normally are bathed in oil isn't a good idea.

Get yourself an impact driver, .125" drill bit and some replacement screws for the clutch cover. And...be sure to clean the area behind the cover/throwout bearing asm. That's the oil spinner. You'll find it packed solid with old clutch material. A good rule of thumb is to clean this every 1000 miles or yearly, whichever comes first.
