Hi there motorcycle hobbyist/enthisiast,

I recently got a slow puncture in the rear of my 1974 Honda CT70 and paid $72 (dent in my budget) to take it to a local bike shop as I have no clue how to install the tube and do not have bead breakers and tire irons etc.......

I am a poor student and cannot afford to take my bike, which is my sole form of transportation to the bike shop again.

However I can compensate you with beer or do your tax return or something...even cash if its reasonable...
Oh I am willing to meet anywhere east of yonge....

Hi Ryan,

This is REALLY not hard to do...I bet one of the guys up there could walk you through it by phone...Are your tires fairly new?

I use Green Slime in any of my bike/atv tires that might be off road here...It works great, but the key is to ride the bike as soon as you put it in for at least 15-20 minutes, otherwise it's useless.

Call the shop and explain to them what happened, they might put a new tube in for free

You need to find out why these tubes are failing, if there is a reason you need to fix that

You said the mechanic found a lot of rust inside the tube and claimed that is what blew the tube

Did you inspect the rims and try to solve the issue? That is what you need to do

I would be surprised if the shop found the issue and didn't fix it, again call them and ask for details at least

the rear tire is slightly worn..........what is green slime? is that what ninja turtles use as shampoo ?

some dude called me and explained how to do it : doesnt seen toooo hard...

just have to figure what to do with the rear brake?

That will guide you through the change, I still have the service manual in my office at work

You need to find the source of the problem and fix it

I would recommend taking a close look into this issue, if you keep getting flats you wont have much fun riding your bike

I think the clowns at the shop pinched the tube....and $76 dollar later Iam the one stuck on the side of the road.....

Im going to wire brush the rust off and then duct tape the rim from the inside so that the tube doesnt make contact with the rust.......this is the temporary solution under a heavy time constraint.

yeah im gonna patch the tube with bicycle patch it only stays inflated for like an hour

Duct taping the inside of the rims is not a good idea...If the tape has any kind of a crinkle in it and it will... or will develope one, it will create a weak spot on your tube from rubbing and the tube could get where it can't be patched. Wire brushing it it completely smooth is a great start. If you have any Primer or Rustoleum to spray the inside of the rim with after you get it clean, that will at least slow down the rust from coming back. Just make sure and get the inside of the rim smooth and free of any loose rust.

Green Slime is a sealer that you put in tires to help keep them from getting air releasing punctures. If you do get a puncture the slime seals the hole. It's about $11-$15 depending on the size and where you buy. Just remove the valve stem from the tube, screw the slime tube on and squeeze the bottle...It's very easy. The air will come out of your tire when you start removing the stem, so unscrew it very slow and when the air starts coming out stop unscrewing because if you let loose of the stem it will go flying. Auto parts,Wal-Mart and places like that carry carry Slime as well as valve stems if needed. Most people use Slime in tires that will or could be off road or exposed to debris..like bikes, motorcycles, RV's, ATV's,tractors,boat trailers etc. Read the instructions because right after you put it in you need to go for a ride in order for it to work and keep working...Don't put it in with the tire off the bike. Slime does not inflate the tire.
