K0 - carb repair - what is the route out.

I went to put on my wiring harness and rebuild my carb, and the good news is I have plenty of time to put the harness on now. I took the carb apart and:

    1) the choke flap had a notch - chunk out of the big hole on the flap that fell out / broke off and fell in? (maybe a mod by previous owner?)
    2) the regular fuel tank attachement nipple fell out of the carb body when I removed the fuel line.
    3) the float had a hole in it and was full of gas.
    4) the mounting threads on the carb were stripped out, (the material was on the bolt still) maybe overtightened or whatever - but stripped for sure now.

so...... I could tap the hole, for the bolt. Order a float, heat up the carb body and slide the nipple back in, and hope the missing piece of the choke is intentional (which is what I'll do no matter what for now). OR order a new carb - which seems easiest and would create the best performance.

what do you think - who sells the best replacement. I am not going for a restoration at this point, but I want to have the stock air box - I have been ordering from CHP - and will order from somewhere tomorrow. Its too bad - I thought I would be riding tonight - but I think that its not too surprising after 5K that the carb was trashed.

After a while I would probably order the 88cc kit, so I would prefer a carb that would work with both, but am not opposed to getting one now and one later- since I have a feeling I need another CT70 someday anyhow. ------>>

It's common for the middle plate on the choke to be missing. I've seen it on 3 different carbs.

The fuel line nipple can be reattached with JB Weld.

I used heli-coils inserts in the flange bolt holes.

Pin holes in the old floats is common as well, a replacement can be found for less than $20.00.

I'd repair it can keep right on riding.

Has anyone tried the CHP carbs? I already have $30 into my junky stock unit. I want a reliable start and ride - doesn't have to increase performance. Thier $60 unit says it's bolt on, then I can mess with my stock carb all I want. Hoping to ride it to work soon.

I got the CHP generic carb Friday and put it on today (Sunday) and got a little extra fuel line to get to the inlets which are on the opposite side from stock. Seemed ok, The handle for the valve is a little close to the exhaust but I can live with it. RUNS GREAT - well, compared to how it used to run. I did do more than switch out the carb, so I was glad it ran at all. I am not real good at the shifting - seems I may have some sort of adjustment in my future. BUT>>>. starts FIRST KICK every time. which is nice. SO anyhow.

I will now set to fixing my stock carb back to fixed, and get a stock air cleaner for it eventually. But in the mean time I am just a headlight, rear view mirror, and insurance away from riding to work on it.

    Sweet
