    Kick starter

Some times my kickstarter does not engage? Most of the time it does but some times it does not feel right? Any info?

Could be the gear on the shaft is worn. Replacing the shaft is a job. Unless you are ready to pretty much dismantle the engine to find the root cause I would just live with it or push start it.

How do you push start a automatic? Somebody else said that it may be the clutch not ajusted right?. I ajusted it and it seams fine, but still sometimes wont kick.

My 1970 H does the same thing, sometimes its like im just kicking through the air. ( and the kick shaft is brand new)(thanks Ron ) But the next time it works fine. It runs great, and it doesnt seem like its hurting anything so im not going to mess with it. Dean

I live on a big hill and the way I push start an automatic is to put in 3rd gear, then keeping the gear lever pushed down with my foot, which releases the clutch, and start coasting down the hill. When I think I'm going fast enough I take my foot off the gear lever, the clutch engages and the engine then turns over.

If the engine is tuned right you really do not have to get a running start. Just put it in second or third gear and nudge it ahead. It should fire right up.
