    Live -n-Learn

While working on a carb the other day i had rebuilt and was in the process of re-installing back on the bike i drpped a locknut down in the intake port on the head.I knew i seen it fall in but was unable to see it down in the cylinder.I tried magnets, vacuum and nothing would remove it and i wasthinking maybe i was seeing things.I removed the motor from the bike and tried turning it upside down and still nothing.I didn't think there was enough gap for it to go past the intake valve but wasn't sure.
Yesterday ended up removing the head and sure enough there it was passed halfway and lodged under the valve.
What a PITA ! When putting the carb back on the lockwashers definetly were left off,not sure why they were there to begin with.

Now back to where i originally started, bike did the same before the carb rebuild.Would only run at WOT but at a idle type speed and very rich.I checked the clip on the needle and it was set at the highest position.Readjusted to the middle and the same symptons with the intake feeling as it had freon running through it,very cold.
Old main jet looked like someone had tried drilling it out.Changed main jet and all is GOOD,bike runs and idles like a top.
    What a PITA !

    Is this the bike? :
(This bike is in great original condition. Has some miles on it. The odometer reads 1775 but based on the tires it may have more. The paint is to good to consider repainting. This would make a super rider you would be proud to be seen on...not a beater in any way. There is no title and the seat has been nicely recovered.)

I don't remember Honda EVER drilling out the main jet for more performance in OEM form?

Glad you got it running good Dennis!

WOW....Sometimes a small job can turn into a major undertaking when things like this happen. It was a good thing that you saw it fall in, that could have been a bad deal if you hadn't...I'm glad you got it out anyway.

Could have definetly been a bad day if i hadn't seen it go in.Went ahead and replaced the timing chain while we were in there it had lots of slack.Still, can't believe that lockwasher was able to get through the valve,
