I would look into dry ice blasting. Not sure if anyone near you does it, but there is a company local to me that does, and it is impressive.
It takes everything off, and doesn't cause any damage to the metal.

    Blasting

Sand blasting works well on low pressure but, there are alot of little crevices that the sand will get in and you will have to make sure and get that out before any coatings are applied...It can be time consuming.

Media blasting is the least time consuming after the fact and there is less chance of damage to the frame. If you get someone that knows what they are doing as far as pressure is concerned both methods get the job done.

You asked on another thread about powder coating. My family owned a paint and powdercoating business for many years. My opinion on powder is that the frame on a CT is so thin that you can easily damage it during the heat process. A lot of people have had good results with it, but the damage can happen and does, you just don't hear about it. The other down side is that if you scratch it, it cannot be matched. The headlight bucket cannot be powdercoated either so it will not match. Powdercoat is almost impossible to remove if you ever wanted to change color, go original, etc. I think powder is great for footpegs, stand and rims but I would not do it on a frame. This is just my thoughts... like I said, a lot of folks have had great success with powder...just be aware of what can happen to your beloved CT. In our business we would have never done a CT due to the risks. I didn't even do mine.

I'm sorry but I know nothing about Lifan or any other Chinese engine...Check the Lifan thread for owners of Lifan's...I would ask a_smereck, he seems very knowledgeable about them, the good and bad. I believe he does a lot of his own mechanical work also. Good Luck.

I used glass bead blasting on my CT70 frame which I did myself and then had it painted with a 2 pack clear over base paint which came up great.
