New 1970 Z-50 prep for running questions

    Hello,

I'm getting ready to get a new 1970 z-50 going. It has 0 miles on it and the engine hasn't been started since the factory. What should I do to get it going again before I do any kicks on it? I would like to know what experts would do? I'll change oil and plug, but should I acutally pull of the top end and check for rust or lube it with the head off? maybe pull off the air filer and check? Was hoping you could help.

    Thanks

    Jimmy

An 84 year old ex Honda salesman had it in his garage. It has a couple nicks because the grandchildren would get on it, but he never let them start or ride it. He aquired it when he was working at honda in the late 70's, old stock at the time. He collects all kinds of things, he had a couple other bikes and a few cars too.... and had this one for sale as he was trying to clean up the shop. Nice guy, thats for sure and sharp as a tack for 84.

Come on were dying to hear what you had to pay for it.

Depending what you're wanting to do with this bike you may be better off value wise, leaving it as is.Definetly a true collector series if it's still in pristine condition.

$1950. is what I paid, but I also paid shipping and gave him a even 2000. The bike isn't in mint condition, the kids did play on it and moving it created a few nicks, but otherwise really nice IMO. He was telling me that the old battery (original) hasn't even been filled with electrolite yet.

Well worth your investment.Personally I would leave it as is, but that's your decision.

Maybe I'll just clean it up and leave it alone. Its pretty thats for sure. I'll either get it Thursday or Friday, not sure, so I'll post more pics then. It's rims look real nice still, original tires don't have any wear to them, no dents anywhere and paint looks nice and bright, only thing is it has a couple chips on the lower right side of the tank.

I have this restored saphire blue one I've been riding anyway.... Still looking for a clean red one, unrestored without dents ... After I find that one, I'll be finished....wife thinks I'm finished now though LOL

Here is a picture of it.

A couple of scratches won't hurt near as bad (value wise) as putting gas in a bike like this, that has never had gas in it before.
    Very rare find !

Okay, as far a cleaning it then, what should I do to preserve it well? Is the seat leather and should I use a leather cleaner/care kit on it? For the chips, should I touch them up so that it doesn't get any rust behind the paint? Looking forward to getting this, so I can find out for 100% certaintee that its never been started. The man that I bought it from told me he did have it titled, but never rode it...so a person never really does know until I get it here. I'll check out the plug and smell in the tank.

    Thanks guys

    Jimmy

Got the paperwork today in the mail, bike supposed to show up at around 11:00PM tonight. Already got it titled and liscensed...cost $35. and 10 minutes

On another note, why are they designated 1969 build dates but call them 1970? Both mine are late 69s on the tags, so are they technically 70 models?
