Sounds like you've already sourced & installed the switch parts.

Your motor looks like it uses a contact plate that attaches to the shift drum shaft, same as new-gen Honda engines. Since the tranny plug/contact asm. is stationary & indexed via its single fixing bolt, the problem has to be unwanted movement of the electrical contacts, most likely the rotating plate.

Assuming that you have the spring pin (tiny split dowel that positively couples the contact plate to the shift shaft) in place, it's either a loose fixing bolt or a problem with the copper contacts.

Being unfamiliar with this particular engine, I'll guess at another possibility...loose tolerances. In that case, you may have to tweak the indexing of the contact plate on the shift drum shaft. The fixing bolt should hold it securely; if not, you'll have to improvise. PRC motors have been notorious for having a bad attitude toward finding neutral, hopefully, that's not the issue here...manifesting via neutral light operation.

the switch i have is from the oem motor..have not used it yet as i need to figure out how to get it out

all i did was hookup a wire to that bolt and turned the bike on.. click on the shifter and the light went off..

i dont have the spring pin though thinking it will make my job easier so im going to source one out

I have that awful sense that I'm missing something here...big time. Can't see how an OEM Honda CT70 neutral light switch could work with the motor I saw in your video. What are you using for contacts? Looks like nothing but metal parts to me.

The phenolic plastic contact plate I mentioned, that I believe is supposed to attach to the drum shaft, is self-insulating, as is the contact/trans plug asm.

At this point, I have to guess that either this motor uses some different neutral light switch setup, or your results (so far) are just freak luck. Either way, better that you contact the dealer from whom the engine was purchased...and I step aside.

im not home at the moment so i cant remake a video.

but that washer in the video there is a bolt that goes with it..

there is a shaft that the bolt screws into each time you shift that bolt moves in for 1/2/3/4 when you come back to neutral its at its furthest point out making contact with the washer. so i just placed a wire there to see what would happen.. sure enough i went to first and the light went out..

i got the motor from terry at firepower so i may have to shoot him and email..

i may just have to pull the motor to find out whats going on as i think another problem has come up...

Terry ought to be able to get your motor issue(s) sorted, easily. That's the benefit of buying an engine from a known dealer...after-the-sale support.

In order to use the shift drum end as a neutral indicator, you are going to need THIS gear indicator plate, and also THIS gear position sensor, which takes the place of the black rubber plug covering the shift drum end bolt.

Here is a pic of an older OEM Honda shift drum...

Ok I'm starting to get it now!!

I still have the oem motor so I guess I need to find out if the piranha motor has the brass cog shown in pic correct??
If it does not would the oem one work size wise?? Piranha is 4 speed pen is 3 speed

I have the rubber stopper already from the oem motor so that can be used! Just need to order the gear indicator
Don't need the harness as there is no gear indicator on the cluster

No, I'm sure the Piranha engine doesn't have the brass piece on the shift drum. If you look closely at the gear indicator plate, it has a pin on the backside, that pin should fit into the groove by the bolthole on the end of your shift drum. You install that plate, and then use the gear position sensor as the neutral indicator, to light the neutral light in the speedo(?). The face of the gear sensor rides on the raised part of the gear indicator plate, and I'd be willing to bet that there is a mint green/red tracer wire coming out of the gear sensor, which is the common wire color for the neutral indicator light. That would be the only wire you would use to suit your need.
