    Points will not open

I have acquired another CT70 4 speed and was trying to set points on it. The points will not open regardless of adjustment position. Points do look good, they arent burnt, scored or dirty. I searched my Clymers for this situation and do not find anything on it.

Any advice on what steps to take from here would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have your rotor in place? It has an eccentric(sp) lobe the arm rides on. Could it be that far out of adjustment?

Can you describe this lobe? Maybe it is not present in the rotor.

I have never worked on the four speed model- just the three speed. If you flip the rotor

over the O.D. of the outer part of the rotor doesn't match (offset) the inner. Did you have

your rotor on when you tried to check the points gap?

No I did not have the rotor on, I just turned the spindle manually. Is that my problem? I feel like a dunce if so!

It is a P.I.T.A. but you cannot set them w/o the rotor in place.
