    Rear shock questions

I don't know exactly which section to go with this. I am repainting my ct70, and when I paint it I wanted to paint the rear shock covers aswell(the metal peices at the top). The only problem is they are dented up bad. The only way to fix them or replace them would be to take the shock apart. I have no way to do so. So, my question. Would my rear shocks look ok w/out the painted metal shock covers if I cut them off and leave them off? All feedback is helpful, and pics of shocks with out them would be great. Thanks,Jared

You need the correct spring compressor, then disassembling those shocks is easy. If you're okay with not having shock covers on the bike, then you might just as well get a pair of good quality aftermarket shocks, like Daytonas. The OE shocks aren't all that great; the springs were designed for a 120lb rider and there's no adjustment.

Reparing shock covers isn't difficult if you know what you're doing. If you lack bodywork experience it's probably a nightmare. Incidentally, there's no good way to remove those covers or refinish the original shocks without a spring compressor.

I think I may Just get a couple good used ones with the metal covers. A friend of mine has a big box full of ct-70 parts and he has some shocks.
