Thread: Thumb throttle Vs. Twist throttle???

Ok, as most ct-70s get, my twist throttle is about shot. It sticks open, then it will stick close and die. Its just a mess. Would it be reasonable to take a thumb throttle off an ATC 70 three wheeler and put it on my ct-70. I belive it should work since they have the same carb. Your opinions are wanted, so tell me what you think of this idea. Thanks, Jared

I'm sure it could be rigged to work, you may even prefer it. Personally, you couldn't pay me enough to run one on a bike, but I'm old school. Your existing throttle probably just needs to be disassembled, cleaned & lubed. A new cable wouldn't hurt either. The original throttle setup actually improves with use if dirt, corrosion and cable damage over three decades aren't allowed to gum up the works.

Check the carb, too. Slides can get become sticky and thottle type won't correct this problem.

I bought the throttle replacement kit from dratv that comes with all the pieces for the handebar and a new throttle cable + carb return spring. I'm definately a novice and it took me ~30mins with some WD-4d and grease. Now my throttle springs back into place like brand new! Only problem is the grip must be pulled back a tiny bit so as not to cover the screw. Try it out!
