    Tire mounting

Im sorry this is going to be a dumb question, however does everyone mount there tires after the rims are together or sandwich them and then bolt the rims together? Also is there a trick to get the throttle to not be so clunky or is it just because i put on all brand new stuff and it hasnt broken in yet? thanks for the help...Dean

Unless you're running one-piece rims, it's a moot point. I'm not sure it's even possible to mount/demount a tire on a CT70 split rim while it's assembled. I guess the better question would be why would you ever want to do this?

While it's great that you can still source all of the OEM parts for the internal twist throttle assembly, the Q/C isn't what it used to be. The internal helix inside the throttle pipe has rough spots/burrs that make the throttle action notchy. Only thing to do is file it smooth, best done with a Dremel or a die grinder. I prefer to reuse an old, vintage, throttle pipe; they're smooth already and give a better throttle action.

Other problematic spots are the cable slide and the RH vinyl grip. The cable slide is soft metal and quickly wears-in. The RH grip cannot be properly fitted while maintaining free throttle return. You can get fairly close by trimming the inside of the open end so that it doesn't bind, and, removing the plastic plug from the RH bar allows the grip to be more completely seated on the throttle pipe.

Dean, Just put the tube in the tire, then place rim half with valve stem thru hole into the tire. Then place other rim half in and bolt together with the 4 smaller bolts, just being carefull not to pinch the tube between the halfs. Do not put any air in until you have bolted the center in.You can but you have to be careful, if you put too much in and only have the 4 bolts in,the tube will spread the rim half apart

its easier if you add just enough air to get the tube in shape before you mount the other rim half, it keeps the tube from getting pinched or moving around too much. just a little air or else what gary said will happen

Be sure to get tubes with straight valve stems,a lot of times they'll sell you the ones with the 90 degree stem and they'll give you nothing but problems.

Every one Ive ever seen needed to have the insides of the wheels wire brushed & painted. I use electrical silicone lube on the beads too in case I ever need new tires after having to saw some old ones off the rims. Ive never had a problem with the angled valve stems, my original ones on my CT70H still worked fine. What kind of problems are you talking about?

My 90 degree stems seem to work well too. Good idea about the electrical silicone on the beads. Splitting the old rims and getting the old tires loose was a real pain as everything was fused together and care had to be taken not to bend the rims up. I put just enough air in the tube to retain it's shape while assembling. Then I aired it up slightly more after bolting the rims together and used a rubber mallet to lightly smack the tire's tread surface while rolling on the floor to seat everything before final airing.

The last set I did after spending 6 hours heating them with a torch until they were almost on fire, I finally cut them off with a jig saw and a cutoff wheel. The rims were like rusty badly finished concrete inside. The jig saw & cutoff wheel took 10 minutes to do

I've had nothing but problems with the 90 degree stems. It appears that the stem gets a hole rubbed in it where it exits the hole in the rim.The ones i had been getting are made of a soft metal either copper or brass.I had this happen on 3 different bikes and when it does there's no patching of the tube,it's trash.Either they rub on the rear brake stay or the vibration is causing them to rub against the hole in the rim.The original tubes Honda used had striaght rubber valve stems.
