    Tire mounting

What's the best way to mount up a set of tires and tube with the split rims? Is it best to kind of bolt the rim halves together with the tire sandwiched in between or is is best to assemble the rim halves and mount the tires as you would with a one piece rim?

I found that bolting the two halfs together with the tire and tube in the middle worked best.

This is what I was thinking...I think I'll need some WD40 help to accomplish that though. The rim isn't too keen on just popping into the tire bead nicely.

Try using windex instead of WD40. It will lubricate the tire enough to get the bead to seat on the rim, then evaporate. WD40 will leave it oily and collect dirt.

Soap and water mix, works great. If you put the tire and rim together first and mount the tire you stand a lot better chance of messing up the paint on the lips of the wheels,if that matters to you,(vs. putting the tire in the middle then bolting the two halves together)

    Good info guys!
I will be mounting two tires this weekend for the "H" project and think I will be doing the tire tube in the middle and bolting the rims toghether.

I found it helps to blow the tube up slightly to make sure it doesn't get pinched between the rims, and use windex as mentioned,

I used soap and water and partially inflated the tube, then sandwiched the halfs together. The tires seated well.
