    Z50R shifting problems

Sorry if there are related posts already out there, but Search wasn't working.

My Z50 is not shifting properly. It shifts rough, jerky, sometimes doesn't make it into gear at all. I've tried the clutch adjustment mentioned on here with no success. I recently bought the bike and it looks like it's been ragged on pretty good. My question is this, how do I determine if the shifting problems are stemming from the clutch? or the transmission?

Thanks for any and all advice.

    Dave

I'd guess trans. pull the clutch cover off,, you can see the shifting mecinizm (spell) shift it thru the gears and watch the shifting paw in the upper left side of the case. either the spring is broke or something is broken or missing. if everthing looks like its working you will have to split the case's and go inside.

Well, I took the cover off and I can see the shifting paw you mentioned. But I can't tell if it's working properly or not - it appears to be hanging up in spots and very loose. My problem now is, how the heck do you get those first 4 little screws off the little cover on the clutch, so that you can remove it? My Clymer manual is in the mail so hopefully that will describe what a proper shift mechanism looks like. But I'll still need to get that clutch off. Those screws will not budge and are starting to strip.

    Thanks again.

You really need to use an impact driver on all the motor screws...I would put some PB on for a awhile also before using the impact. IF that does not work..I use "grab it next". I think the impact will probably do it though. Good Luck.
