Thread: 3 speed electric conversion

been looking to swap my 3 speed to 12v. does anyone make a conversion kit. the only ones i can find are for the 4 speed manuals. if theres no kit available what parts would be needed and where can i get em? I love posting my stupid questions on this site...theres such a wealth of information and nobody talks s#*t about me being a noob.

Why in the world would you want to do that?

DRAtv has a conversion kit. 87, 12 volt runs circles around these old 6 volt bikes. Bulbs are brighter, CDI, no points to mess with, it's great.

Since I'm not doing my bike stock, I chose to use an XR/CRF 50-based engine. High performance parts are inexpensive and plentiful and they are 12v already. I was able to buy a 110w lighting coil for it for $50 or so. This may be another option for you if you're looking to build one to ride.

I'm having the same problem with dim lights. I was wondering if a new voltage regulator/rectifier on the old system could possibly help? Any thoughts?
