More Power from Stock CT70 KO?

I've recently acquired a stock 1970 CT70 KO 3spd auto w/ 6 volt elecrical system that runs and looks great. Starts up on first or 2nd kick every time and tops out around 45mph. Basically, I want to get more power from the engine, not necessarily to go any faster, but to keep up with traffic while going up inclines. I would like the bike to be a reliable semi-daily driver around town kinda bike, and occasionally take to the desert ... what do I need to do to meet this goal??
    Thanks!

Of course I'd prefer to keep a Honda engine on the bike as opposed to going aftermarket, that is IF I need to go for a new engine at all...
